Sia: genius songwriter/vocalist and legend. What a red-carpet moment. She is delightfully bonkers and I adore her. Hope she wins.
This is a heartfelt number about exactly what the title says: Church’s hometown no longer feels the same to him because his love has left.
Did you know? This is Eric Church's first time performing on the GRAMMY stage. "Give Me Back My Hometown" is featured on his 2014 album, The Outsiders, which topped the Billboard 200 and earned Church his second GRAMMY nomination for Best Country Album.
If it’s Eric Church you’re thinking of — if you wanted to be taken to Church in a different way then Hozier took you — you’re in luck. Here he is now, with “Give Me Back My Hometown.” Awesome.
Seriously, Annie Lennox with Hozier was such a moment, I think my moment of the night. Annie Lennox just took the roof off. My god. Her voice. The two of them together. It just worked. It was inspiring. What a career. What a voice. Total inspiration.
Or rather, WHO is on your mind? Let us know!
Not that there’s been much time for looking forward. It’s already been a jam-packed show. So much to hash over. What’s on your mind out there?
... and then we have Brandy Clark and Dwight Yoakam, a pair-up I’ve been awaiting all night (big Yoakam fan!).
But we are about to move to the country. Is this the territory you’ve been waiting for? Eric Church is up next.
Usher sings, he dances, he spellbinds. He generally works it. And wish such fluidity and style.
Well, I think it is my friend Sam's year. He has won two so far. He is such a delight. He said he used to make music that he thought people wanted to hear and it was s***, he started making music which he believed, and it worked. Boy did it work.
GRAMMY watchers, Usher's smile upon hearing Stevie Wonder's harmonica was pretty wonderful. Were you, too, moved?
Boy Pharrell won!!!! His speech was from the heart. He bigged up Columbia, calling it the best label in the world. My label Roc goes through Columbia too. Big up to them. "Happy" tune, much deserved. He said he would moon walk off stage. I wished he did.
As an aside from the music, he looks fly at every occasion.
It looks like Ryan Adams is enjoying the show. Are you?
And here he is! Beautiful surprise ending.
If only we could make this moment everlasting! Great lyrics, beautiful song. Quintessential Stevie Wonder.
Even if you're Usher, performing alongside a harp has got to have its challenges. It's such an imposing (if beautiful sounding) instrument.
Usher may be the perfect artist to sing this song - he seems to be inhabiting Stevie Wonder’s oversized soul here.
Oh, the whirlwind! Usher is being ushered onto the GRAMMY stage.
“Cheek to Cheek” won Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album tonight, prior to the show. Great win, great pairing.
